Thoughts on Energy and Intent
The principal rule of internal energy is that everything begins with intent. Going into each interaction with an intention of humility gives a person the " ability to respond " (responsibility) accordingly. But according to Lao-Tzu, the 5th century philosopher, "Virtues such as humility, integrity, responsibility, honesty etc... are perishable skills that must be practiced in order to be maintained".
The ideas of ritual and protocol give us the structures which allow us to exercise these virtues. After all, the two words which comprise the word spiritual are "spirit" and "ritual". This is why I feel that a dominant must be able to train his sub in not only matters of sex, but also in all aspects of the sub's life... especially when it comes to matters of body, mind, and spirit.
Creating an effective 'spirit ritual' can help a sub become grounded and happy, while enhancing the virtues that we want to see in their submission. in this way we guide and direct their energy responsibly, morally and ethically.
After all, submission, in and of itself, is a spiritual act which was mentioned in some form, 16 different times in the bible, 7 times in the Quran, and once in the Torah. That's a rough estimate, but the idea that the concept of devoting oneself to something greater than ourselves is a universal concept and practice that is be shared around the globe. This is in my opinion is a big part of the nature of man
I believe that both dominants and submissive need to cultivate a spiritual nature which is virtuous, so we can all have more than just reactionary relationships. Our relationships should be comprised of and based upon virtue, reciprocity, responsibility and spirituality.
