What is the difference between being a sub or a slave?
Good question... but the question is flawed because there is no tangible differences between being a sub or a slave. Both are two sides of the same coin and one cannot exist without the other.
In my opinion, it is this secular perspective of those that serve us that is the reason why traditional Ds and Ms training methods are so flawed.
Think about it. The traditional perspective is that subs and slaves are different so most training only highlights one facet of of growth..
This is why the first aberrations of training are rooted in the the physical / tangible aspects of service. This is the easiest aspect to learn because as human beings we have been learning how to do physical tasks since our birth.
This is also why most dominants start their training with physical protocols that challenge the sub on a physical level such as how to sit, stand, kneel, crawl serve, speak, perform chores and household duties etc...
Then, if the sub performs well, they often receive some form of physical reward (or praise) that reinforces the fact that they have done well. Or, if the sub has done something that is not correct they receive some form of physical punishment that is either painful or uncomfortable in nature.
But, what traditional training doesn't do is enhance a subs desire to be more than proficient in the physical manifestations of service. It just reduces a person to there baser levels of being helpful and makes no reference to being a companion .
Achieving this dual state is called Enso. (Now here is were it gets a little philosophical.)
The concept of a sub

A sub is like the universe and within this universe everything that can be perceived is contained. They are strong in their mind and body, elegant in their preparation and service and enlightened in all aspects of service. This is the yang.
The concept of a slave
The slave is like the void or the perceivable. The slave is devoid of selfish desire and does not seek praise or status. They exist in a perpetual state of readiness until called upon. He or she performs their service without insolence, overconfidence, greed, anger, fear of failure, doubt, distrust, contempt, conceit and without hesitation. the slave seeks to become one with her master both mentally and spiritually. Her sole goal is to make them happy because "their happiness is essential to there own" This is the yin.
Duality in sub/slave training
The dualities described above are two opposing but complementary forces, yet each of them contains an element or seed of the other because neither can exist without the other. If you take away the void (slave) then the universe (sub) has no room to grow and will become stifled. If you take away the universe then you are left with nothing tangible so training becomes confusing and challenging for all involved. As the poet and philosopher Titus Lucretius Carus said, “Since you must admit that there is nothing (a void) outside the universe, it can have no limit and is accordingly without end or measure.” Which means a sub /slaves ability to grow is immeasurable. This also means that both the sub and slave aspects have to be not only acknowledge but nurtured and embraced in order for them to be whole, healthy human being(s) that can give of themselves wholeheartedly.
