Can kids of poly families be took just because they are poly?

If you are in California, its very unlikely that your children would be taken do to lifestyle or occupation. I know this from experience as I was in the adult biz for a while. But, I also had a girl friend whose child got taken from her because of our poly dynamic. The child was visiting in Missouri and the parent found out about our poly dynamic and he filed for custody and won. 

And, although she has since moved back she still hasn't gotten back her children. Also if you are in California people can use the police and child protective services to make your life a living hell. Everything from, strangers asking the children embarrassing questions about their parents to having the remanded into the custody of the state. 

It's very important that you understand the laws that govern children in your state when entering a poly dynamic with a person that has kids. One of your best options is to go to a free legal service or family advocate center and get the advice... or spend the extra money and talk to a lawyer in your area.
